Inka ter Haar
Inka ter Haar * 1980, born in Duisburg, lives and works in Basel since 2015.
The observation and visualization of inner figures or psychological bodies and the localization of my own biography in global social contexts such as environmental destruction, war, patriarchal structures, the struggle for women's rights and violence form the basis of my artistic practice.
I am currently interested in the transgenerational transmission of experiences of violence, the underlying psychological mechanisms of trauma and violence and the possibilities of uncovering and visualizing them.
In literature, there is the term “mood memoirs”. This includes books in which authors, such as Sylvia Plath with The Bell Jar or William Styron's Darkness Visible, describe their depression. These descriptions are paradigmatic. They influence our thinking and thus our understanding of psychological problems and borderline experiences. Over the last few years I have developed an emblematic visual language that provides a visual orientation of the psychological structure of human experience. Painting and drawing are my main medium. Drawing leads me to the subject, painting leads me to reflection.
