Wen Liao
Liao Wen is a Chengdu-born, Hong Kong-based artist working across sculpture, video, and live performance.
Her practice often integrates puppet elements with sculpture, creating fragmented, deformed bodies that evoke tension and empathy. While deeply autobiographical, her work also researches rituals, myths, and technology to focus on oppressed and regulated bodies, exploring the dynamic between control and vulnerability, harm and protection.
Her recent solo exhibition, "Trust Fall" (MACA Art Center, Beijing, 2025), addressed the sense of displacement and underlying political orders she perceived after moving to Hong Kong. She has participated in group exhibitions at The British Council (Hong Kong, 2025); Guangdong Times Museum(Guangzhou, 2024); The First Trans-Southeast Asia Triennial (Guangzhou, 2023); OCAT Biennale 2021 (Shenzhen, 2021), among others.
Liao Wen was honored with the Focus Stand Prize at Frieze New York 2023, shortlisted for the Ducato Prize 2023, and named one of Art in America's New Talent artists in 2022. Her work is included in the Phaidon Press publication GREAT WOMEN SCULPTORS.
