Tanja Arx

Tanja Arx, born and raised in a small village in the border triangle of Austria, Slovenia, and Hungary, studied fine arts in Linz and creative writing at the Literature Institute in Biel. Her texts have been published on Deutschlandfunk Kultur, as well as in various anthologies and literary magazines, most recently in Das Narr und den Lichtungen. For her debut novel Zwischen Haut und Himmel (Between Skin and Sky), she received a grant from the Literature Committee of both Basel cantons. Together with screenwriter Flurina Gutmann, she founded the collective Weiche Scham, which organizes feminist readings and workshops on various topics in German-speaking Switzerland. Tanja Arx is a member of the jury for the LandLesen writing competition and works as a mentor for writing projects.

In her literature, she deals with the themes of violence, sexuality, repression, and recurrence. She writes along moral boundaries, searching for the fictions we have created as a society and those that are newly conceivable. Of particular importance: the possible breadth, the subversive forces—in the body, in language.
