Saba Niknam
Saba Niknam is a French-Iranian artist based in Strasbourg, dedicated to preserving and innovating the craft traditions of her native Iran. Profoundly concerned by the loss of cultural heritage in the face of political upheaval in the Middle East, Saba's work explores themes of migration, cultural identity and the timeless power of myth and legend.
Her art is inspired by traditional folk art, mythology and ritual practices from all over the world. She is particularly keen to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and the modern world, creating works that transcend cultural boundaries.
Saba's creations can be found in prestigious collections such as those of the Musée du Quai Branly and the FRAC Alsace. Her participation in exhibitions such as “Voyage à travers les coiffes” and “Telling Stories” at the Transpalette in Bourges testifies to her commitment to sharing her cultural heritage with a wider public.
Through her work, Saba seeks to encourage learning and mutual appreciation within a global artistic context, while preserving Iran's rich cultural heritage for future generations. Unfortunately, the political situation in Iran has hampered the development and safeguarding of traditional culture. Political instability in the Middle East threatens to erase ancient rituals handed down from generation to generation. Saba hopes that through her art, she can raise awareness of the importance of preserving these cultural roots.
