Fabio Luks
Fabio Luks’s paintings and drawings revolve around the relationship between human beings and architecture: walls and arches do not appear as rigid constructions, but as permeable, living bodies that contain something organic—like structures that breathe, feel, and store memories. Human and architecture merge into one another, as do the realms of inside and outside. It is in this tension that the uncanny unfolds: the sense that the images themselves are alive and return the viewer’s gaze with a mysterious awareness.
Pictorial spaces open up like entrances into the psyche. Hidden caverns are threaded with signs and traces that suggest an enigmatic form of communication. Ladders, stairways, and openings appear whose destinations remain undefined. In other works, the spaces themselves enter into dialogue. Painting hands emerge from the canvases, arms point in a direction, legs cross the picture’s boundaries, and eyes peer out from behind doors—bodily fragments that link the visible with the invisible.
In this way, Luks’s works generate an atmosphere that oscillates between subtle eeriness and playful humor. With clear directness and powerful colors, or at times reduced to black, white, and shades of gray, the painting itself speaks—immediate, physical.
