Livia Kern

Livia Kern is a freelance choreographer, dance therapist, Axis Syllabus teacher and dancer in Basel. In her own project, she explores the tension between political activism and performance as well as between art and healing. She also explores dance practices that can be embedded in everyday life or public space and is interested in how they promote community, support the integration of the individual into a larger whole and create a connection between body, expression and content-related discussion.

Since 2018, she has been initiating regular feminist dance events in public spaces, from which the queer-feminist dance collective “femtak” has grown. Femtak artistically addresses issues of equality in public spaces and implements them through dance. In 2020/21, together with Rebekka Gather, she performed her first full-length stage play “IRA - Ein furioses Bühnenstück über Lebenskraft” at Palazzo Liestal and, in the same year 2020, launched the dance project “Public Groove” together with Benjamin Lindth. In 2023, she directed and choreographed the queer-feminist dance piece “Resistor” about adaptation and resistance at Roxy Birsfelden. In 2024, she choreographed the participatory dance piece “Innehalte” at Roxy Birsfelden, the dance flash mob “Courage” with Theater Power Flower for people 60+ and the Swiss-wide dance action “Carrying Care” about the care of femtak. In all these projects, Livia believes in the social and political significance of moving bodies, as well as in the power that dance carries for personal processes.

Livia also regularly offers contemporary dance classes and workshops for various groups, as well as dance trainings for professional dancers and individual dance therapy sessions.
