Azadeh (Andisheh) Karami

My name is Azadeh (Andisheh) Karami, a 39-year-old from Iran. In mid-April 2022, I traveled to Germany to attend a writing scholarship course. I hold a bachelor's degree in architecture, which I completed about fourteen years ago. Since the age of eighteen, I have worked in various fields. Alongside my professional career, I have pursued artistic endeavors such as blogging, painting, and photography. To sustain myself, I found it necessary to engage in creative activities to soothe my restless spirit. Writing, in particular, became my refuge, helping me to organize my scattered thoughts and connect my internal world with the external one.

From a young age, I was passionate about reading and writing poems and stories, dreaming of becoming a writer. This aspiration occasionally materialized in the form of short poems. However, about seven years ago, I began writing earnestly and consistently. As a result of my efforts over the years, I have created a collection of poems and twelve short stories, though they remain unpublished.

During my two-year stay in Germany, I completed artist residencies at Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen and Heinrich Böll Haus. During this period, I was invited to several reading events in Düsseldorf and Düren. In 2022-2023, amidst the Mahsa Amini revolutionary movement, I was interviewed by Viernull magazine in Düsseldorf about my protest in front of the main train-station and the situation in Iran. I also contributed two articles on this topic to that magazine and to LBC magazine in Berlin. Additionally, on International Women's Day in 2024, I performed two poems related to women at a demonstration in Düren.

I am currently residing at Atelier Mondial in Basel, where I am working on my first novel, which explores the situation and revolution in Iran.
