Alexandra Navratil
Alexandra Navratil lives and works in Zurich and Basel. She studied Fine Arts at Central St. Martins College in London (BA) and at Goldsmiths College in London (MA).
In her work, she explores intricate material narratives, revealing unexpected connections in a poetic and sensory manner while simultaneously highlighting the corrosive effects of slow violence. In her most recent projects, she addresses the instrumentalization of nature and forms of scientific representation in film and photography, drawing on both archival material and self-produced imagery.
Her solo exhibitions include A Tale of a Tub in Rotterdam, Kunsthaus Langenthal, Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Stedelijk Museum, Bureau Amsterdam, and the Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris. Institutional group exhibitions include Kunsthaus Baselland, Kunsthaus Zürich, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Fotomuseum Winterthur, CAPC Bordeaux, Museu Sztuki Łódź, and ICA Philadelphia. Her videos have been shown, among others, at the Liverpool Biennale, the EYE Filmmuseum Amsterdam, the IFFR International Film Festival Rotterdam, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
Alexandra Navratil is a lecturer at the Institute Art Gender Nature, HGK Basel, FHNW.
