In the interests of economic development in South American countries, the Amazon rainforest has long been viewed primarily as an exploitable source of raw materials. Broken Landscape, an immersive and interactive installation by Verena Metz Zumaran, presents a specific case from the area of La Pampa, Perú. It illustrates an urgent truth: that the fragile ground beneath us — socially, ecologically and politically — can no longer sustain this destructive model.
