Leonardo Bürgi Tenorio

(*1994)

Leonardo Bürgi Tenorio is a freelance artist who lives and works in Basel. In his artistic practice, he deals in depth with the dichotomy between the understanding of culture and nature. He uses a romantic visual language that aims to depict an image of nature while always revealing a reflection of a human image of culture. To this end, Leonardo works primarily with natural materials, which he deliberately contrasts with cultural goods. His artworks are predominantly installative and sculptural works that often have hybrid characteristics. From 2014 to 2021, he was a co-founder and member of the Hasoso Koch collective, which was active in activism and performance throughout Europe. Leonardo completed a Bachelor at the Institute of Art, HGK in 2018 and a Master in Fine Arts at the Institute Art Gender Nature HGK in Basel in 2023. He has been a board member of Ausstellungsraum Klingental since 2019. His works have been shown at the Centre d'art Neuchâtel, Kunst(Zeug)Haus, Kunsthaus Baselland, Espace Libre, Palazzina, Galería Autonoma CDMX, Galeria Grasa AMBA, among others. In 2023, as part of a competition organised by Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt, he realised an artwork Living Things in the Sandgrube garden in Basel.
