Eins, deux, tre, quatter

The work of Jonathan Roy explores the daily coexistence of different Swiss linguistic and cultural communities.

The composite works, in the form of installations/texts, deliberately mix the four national languages (and, by necessity, English), a sort of improbable patchwork constructions/compositions, like the Swiss confederation itself.

They retrace the artist's journey by train to the four corners of the country, constantly moving from one community and one language to another, and keep a tangible, sensitive and current trace of this variable-geometry Swiss multilingualism, with its singularities, its contradictions and flaws. Between reflection, awareness and resistance.

Jonathan Roy is a visual artist from Québec City, Canada. His artistic work includes installations, sculpture, painting, writing, photography and various permanent or ephemeral public art projects. He holds a Master's degree in Architecture (M. Arch.) from the University of Laval (Québec).
